new york city in instagram photos

New York City in Instagram photos

After we returned from New York City a week and a half ago, I was borderline obsessed with convincing my husband that we should pick up and move to the East Village neighborhood. We found 15+ awesome restaurants in the span of two blocks (we like to eat), plus drip coffee shops on each corner. Is this Heaven? No, it’s the East Village in all it’s glory. Then we looked up rent for a one bedroom apartment and had heart palpitations. We’ll keep our townhouse in the ‘burbs, thank you very much. Even though this area was our favorite to explore, there was a lot to see in NYC and the overall experience was great. Here is New York City in Instagram photos: Have you ever been?

moments | july instagram photo challenge

July Instagram Photo Challenge

Even though we still have a whole week of the June Instagram photography challenge left, I’m already planning prompts for the month of July. This challenge has given me the excuse to post something each day, and I definitely think it has helped to improve my photography because I’ve been thinking about lighting, leading lines, texture, and objects that seem out of place. With Instagram becoming such a huge part of  the social media world, why not work on your creativity, too? You can find the July Instagram prompts below and I really hope that they spark your interest in this challenge. I’d love for you all to join me in this Instagram project. All you have to do is follow me on Instagram, pay attention to the daily prompts, and use a few hashtags so other Instagram addicts can participate. Let’s have fun and work on our photography together! DETAILS When: The […]

moments in june | an instagram photography challenge

Instagram Photography Challenge

Instagram is my favorite social media outlet and I’m constantly working on perfecting my photography there. I’m obsessed with following travel, lifestyle, and photography accounts, and I love a creative shot. I’m also convinced that Instagram has helped me when it comes to using a DSLR because finding patterns, unique objects, and different poses has become second nature. Who would have thought a smartphone app could be so helpful? Because of this, I’m participating in my own June instagram photography challenge. This challenge will be all about little moments, lighting, leading lines, and other creative photos. So instead of the usual photo-a-day challenge, this one will be based more on improving photography skills. Being excited is an understatement! I’d love for you all to join me in this Instagram project. All you have to do is follow me on Instagram, pay attention to the daily prompts, and use a few […]

recent snapshots

Here are some recent snapshots of the new house and of course, our dogs (duh, why wouldn’t I have hundreds of photos of Malcolm and Ollie on my phone?). We have been in our place for two whole weeks and we’re still unpacking boxes and attempting to de-clutter and organize our lives. When you’re used to living out of suitcases (well, quite a few suitcases), a lot of “stuff” becomes your own personal hell. We’ve donated tables, bar stools, electronics, and bags of clothes to the Salvation Army, so the next step is clearly a bonfire in the back yard. Desperate times call for desperate measures — plus, I’ve always loved the smell of burning. But not burning plastic or hair; that’s just gross. So homeowners — how do you do it? Tips? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TIPS!

i jinxed myself

A few days ago I was discussing my immune system with Brandon and the fact I haven’t had the flu or a cold in a very long time. I shouldn’t have even brought it up because sure enough, two days later I was sick in bed with the dreaded common cold and a lovely case of the night sweats… I jinxed myself. Don’t you love when that happens? Now, I can deal with congestion but waking up in my own sweat every morning isn’t pleasant. It’s cold, uncomfortable, and incredibly disgusting. There’s nothing sexier than your wife being covered in sweat, acne cream, smelling like cough drops, and with a snot tissue pile conveniently located next to the bed. Am I right, B? Since we just moved this weekend I had big plans to organize our townhouse and make it feel like home, but I’ve been napping, cuddling with the […]

life’s little moments | insta-gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Since we’ve been traveling and moving around so often lately, we’ve decided to stay in Boston for the holidays. We’ll be having a small celebration with Malcolm and Ollie, and you can bet they’ll be eating their fair share of turkey. Food comas for all! Here are some recent “moments” from my phone. I’m so grateful for my family, friends, and this awesome blogging community I’ve become a part of. These past couple of years have certainly been special!

life’s little moments | november

Have you noticed that as you get older, the months seem to fly by even faster? I’m not a fan of this because I always feel so behind. We just moved to Boston at the beginning of September and before we know it, we’ll be headed back to Washington, DC. There are still restaurants to try, museums to explore, and streets to walk (wait, does that sound like I’m a street walker?), and time is running out. Have I already mentioned that I love Boston? Because I’m smitten with this city and I don’t want to leave — ever. My husband will literally have to drag me out of our apartment when that time comes in late February/early March. Sigh. Boston has everything I could possibly want in a city. If I want to feel classy (which is rare) there are wine tastings and dinners. And if I want to act […]

life’s little moments | october

The month of October has been wonderful for our family and I hope it’s been that way for you, too.  We’ve had fun exploring Boston, Cambridge and Salem (insane around Halloween, by the way), training Ollie has been going well and he’s acting like less of a psychopath when he sees other dogs, and I met two of my favorite bloggers in person! Not only did I meet these awesome ladies, but I was also able to take their photographs for my portfolio. I’m feeling more comfortable behind the lens and I’m pretty confident in my posing abilities. The next step? Building a photography website. Now, I’m no WordPress guru but I’ve been able to do a few simple things myself and that makes me feel like the smartest woman in the world! Yeehaw. Especially when I try explaining something to B and he has no idea what I’m talking […]

life’s little moments

I finally met up with my blog friend LB in Wonderland yesterday. We went to lunch at the Parish Cafe in Boston and I think her boyfriend was happy to hear that I wasn’t an old, creepy man pretending to be a blogger. She even sent him the photo above to prove it. Funny story about that photo… before it was taken we were discussing how we could never be fashion bloggers because we’re too awkward when it comes to posing. Then the wind started to pick up, we accidentally banged our heads together (hard), and finally snapped the picture. We are totally awkward! Anyway, I loved meeting up with her and I’m sure more “blates” are in our future! Onto other matters… Malcolm and Ollie are starting to improve after a bout of Giardia. We actually ran Malcolm to the emergency vet a few days ago because he started shaking uncontrollably. […]

life’s little moments

This past week has been rough. We moved to our new city and all was going well until our dogs decided to get sick. After calling the vet and being told to wait and try boiled chicken and rice, things weren’t getting better so we took Malcolm and Ollie in on Tuesday. It turns out they have Giardia. They lick my face constantly. Excuse me while I stick my head in a bucket of bleach. What have you been up to lately? Hopefully your week hasn’t involved uncontrollable doggie diarrhea.

life’s little moments | snapshots from our first week in boston

SeptemberCollage2_zps605c8544

Boxes and suitcases are unpacked, the dogs are getting used to their new surroundings, and our apartment is slowly becoming a home. We’ve only been in Boston for little over a week but I think it’s safe to say we’re loving our temporary city. The best part about moving to a different place every six or so months is having the chance to explore and experience new things. I already have a favorite coffee shop just down the street, we’ve found wonderful restaurants, and the weekend activities are endless. What’s your favorite part about your city?

I’ve packed four ginormous suitcases and now comes the tedious task of packing up all of our appliances and miscellaneous kitchen items. If you want to learn how to pack like a boss, start by keeping every single box your stuff comes in. We have boxes from our blender, tea kettle, glasses, spice tins – everything! It’s so much easier that way. Just be sure to designate a closet in your apartment/house to store all of these stupid boxes. What have you been up to lately? 1. Tried taking a photo of Ollie. Didn’t work… 2. ONA bag + awesome strap = love 3. A reminder of good times and lots of travel 4. Relaxation at a bed and breakfast You guys, I’m moving to Boston soon! djfkalspjdglkhasdfgajsdifojasdfkl. You know when something hits you all of a sudden? Yeah, that happened today. Even though I’ll miss the Florida beaches and zip lining at the Melbourne zoo, I’m sick and tired of cockroaches that are bigger than my face. And fire ants that are really attracted to my toes. Die, insects! While I’m dancing around my apartment (don’t worry, I have pants on) and thinking of fun dates to plan with my blog friend LB, tell me about your week!

Instead of posting Instagram photos today, here are a few videos of Malcolm as a puppy because 1// I didn’t take many photos this week, 2// It’s Malcolm 2nd birthday! I’m glad this little man has been my sidekick these past couple of years. Yes, we record videos of our dogs. Cute, furry puppy butts and little barks should always be documented. 1// My fancy new camera bag 2// Malcolm sunbathing near the pool 3// Ollie giving me the death glare because I forced him to surf 4// We slept with four dogs in our bed My life has been consumed with dogs and an ONA camera bag I can’t stop hugging. It might be the best purchase I’ve ever made because the size is perfect and the leather is soft but sturdy. My last camera bag was made out of chevron fabric and stained really easily so it was basically a waste of money. Where am I going with this? Well, if you need a new bag, I’m recommending ONA to you. Isn’t it pretty? Other than that, we’ve been preparing for our move to Boston. Finding an apartment and scheduling movers every six months is a lot of fun…  What have you been up to lately? I hope everyone is having a great week thus far. I’ve been trying to catch up on laundry and dishes — too bad I’m constantly distracted by the furry little men in my life. Snuggle time again, Malcolm? Sure, why not. That load of white clothes can wait!Other than leaving the Midwest, coming back to Florida and catching up on chores, I haven’t been up to that much. We are moving to Boston in about a month so I suppose I should start looking at housing. Eek!What have you been up to lately?

life’s little moments + unplugging

1// Last-minute trip to visit family2// My sister’s rabbit, Bun Bun3// Sushi time4// Relaxing outsideI’ve been in the Midwest since last Friday and it’s been a nice little getaway. My sister’s out of school for the summer and we’ve been spending quality time together, plus I unplugged yesterday. Sometimes unplugging is hard, especially since I’m addicted to Twitter and feel as though I’ll miss out, but it’s well worth it in the end. Lately I’ve noticed that even when I’m doing fun activities with my husband or family, I’m fixated on social media and what my blog friends are up to. When I unplug, I’m able to live in the moment and really enjoy these special times. What have you been up to lately? life’s little moments + blogging woes

1// Beach time2// Back in the UK? Nah, just Epcot3// Taking my sister’s senior photos4// Quality time with the family5// Dinner & searching for dolphins6// Bath time means cranky pupsI haven’t been in love with blogging for the past couple of months. Actually, I haven’t even liked it. What was once a fun hobby and a place to share goals and pretty photos has turned into something that I have to do. I no longer enjoy answering emails. I’m overwhelmed. I’m sick of the competition. I’m tired of being a part of a million giveaways that I couldn’t give two shits about… and some of the most recent giveaways even seem slimy to me. I’m not saying that I haven’t been caught up in my blog’s numbers because it’s something that I unfortunately think about every day, but now, I’m just not sure about anything. What was the point of that […]

Question. Why does HGTV make everything seem so easy? I wasn’t even doing heavy lifting and my entire body hurts. life’s little moments

First of all, I’d like to thank everyone for their sweet comments on yesterday’s post. I made myself write it in about ten minutes and hit publish before I could change my mind. I had intense butterflies at first, but feel better already. Something about really putting yourself out there is unnerving… but I’m happy I did. And even though others might not agree with me sharing my life on the Internet, I want my blog to be as real as can be. Who knows?
