a weekend in wyoming

Weekend in Wyoming

Today Morgan from The Misadventures of Morgan is sharing her favorite things to do in Wyoming. Since I’m dying to go to Yellowstone National Park to visit Old Faithful, this post couldn’t have come at a better time. Enjoy! When I was younger, I was utterly confused by the amount of people who would flock to Wyoming during their summer vacation. Having grown up in the state, I found it to be quite flat and boring. It wasn’t until I had moved away for a while that I realized how great the Cowboy State actually is. Classic case of “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. Now that I’m back home, every weekend consists of a fun getaway to somewhere nearby. This is a state that I think everyone should experience at least once in his or her life. Yes, that means you! Are you ready to plan […]

a local’s guide to london

A local's guide to London

Even though Jen doesn’t yet consider herself a London local, her guide to London is so thorough and helpful that I’m calling her one. I mean, look at the detail of this guide! Her suggestions are wonderful so be sure to bookmark this page before your next vacation to London. And let’s give it up for Jen of Lady, Relocated! I’ve now lived in London for 9 months as Rachel mentioned in her most recent weekend postcard. I don’t consider myself a local but I have graduated myself to tour guide status. I’ve had several visitors rely on me for London ideas so I’ve refined my suggestions to a point I’m finally comfortable sharing. These recommendations are meant for first time London visitors who want to see highlights and squeeze in as much as possible during a short timeframe. I’ve also included some helpful resources from travelers much more experienced than me […]

are you a bed person?

Happy Easter, people. If you’re avoiding family and creeping on the Internet, your Easter is about to get a lot better because the hilarious Jillian Lorraine wants to talk about being a bed person today. I’m totally a bed person. There are many kinds of people in this world. Introverts and extroverts. Animals lovers and those who seek therapy after touching a dog’s collar. Bed people and non-bed people. In general, I fall into the categories of introvert, therapy, and bed people. Also, yes, “bed people” is a term I just came up with. What are we thinking of it? Right. I absolutely adore my bed, so much so that while some people name their cars, my trusty old Corolla remains nameless and my bed goes by “The Marshmallow.” Isn’t she lovely? The Marshmallow is the first bed that was ever truly “mine.” Before she came into my life I’d […]

travel light

I’ve been following Team Wiking for a while now so I’m absolutely giddy Jessica is guest posting on my blog today! She writes about travel, photography, and her beautiful family. Hi, everyone! Jessica from Team Wiking Travel Blog here. I’m here on Rachel’s blog today to talk to you a little bit about packing light, aka not checking a bag when you fly. I write a monthly column on my blog called Travel Light. It’s about packing light and includes a packing and outfit list for a specific destination. Today I’m going to share a simple formula that I use to pack for my family that you can use when packing for your next adventure. Step 1. Plan Where are you going? Are you going somewhere tropical, cooler? What will the weather be like? You have to get in the mindset of being practical. From there you can branch out […]

do epic shit | because you deserve to be happy

Amy from Créatrice Mondial has wonderful advice for us all: Stop comparing yourself to others, find your own voice, choose your own path, and don’t forget to do epic shit. This blog post couldn’t have come at a better time, because I needed that reminder. My husband and I did do something a little crazy this year (we bought a house via FaceTime) but we also want to achieve other goals like traveling the world, running walking another 5k, and expanding my photography business. Sometimes it’s just difficult to get started. How about you? Do you struggle with this? If so, read on and be inspired, my friends. Read on. (and after you read this, you had better do epic shit). Do Epic Shit. I hope Rachel doesn’t mind that I’m suggesting somewhat colorful language on her blog, but that’s a bit how I roll. Plus I love that quote, don’t you? […]

travel and happiness

Ciao! I’m Jessica, the girl behind a blog called BRAVE, and I am so happy to be guest posting here today! On my own blog I usually write about living in Switzerland, traveling the world, and a handful of adventures in between. But, today I thought I would change things up a little bit and share an idea. For a while now I have been dwelling on one particular question: Why does travel make me happy? In the last year and a half I have traveled to 17 countries, spent twelve months abroad and plan on living in Europe for at least another 2.5 years. So you could maybe say that I am a travel addict. I can’t help it, exploring the world makes me happy! Before I delve into some amateur philosophizing let me be clear: I am only nineteen, so I am far from having all the answers! […]

travel fears

The gorgeous Lauren from Pink on the Cheek is about to go on an adventure and we need to help her out with some travel fears. Be sure to send her any travel advice you have! Hey there Postcards readers! I’m Lauren from Pink on the Cheek! My lifestyle blog includes posts on blog tips, style, love + life. You are probably wondering why I am guest posting on Rachel’s blog since I never travel. The thing is I want to travel. I want to see the world. So that makes me completely jealous while skimming Rachel’s pictures from across the globe. The farthest I have been from home (California) would be when I travel to Virginia to see my friends. The thing (besides money) that is holding me back from going out and seeing the world is…I hate flying. I can handle flights across the country. It’s when we […]

is singapore sterile and boring?

Today Anja from the Curly Traveller is going to tell us all about Singapore and I’m so excited! I was supposed to have the post up yesterday but my Internet wasn’t working, and then I accidentally dumped a glass of sparkling water all over my MacBook Pro and had to dry it out. My husband nearly had a heart attack — but don’t worry, she still works! You go, laptop; get on with your bad self! A widespread stereotype about Singapore is that it is sterile and boring, only interested in economic growth. People believe there is nothing authentic left and that Singapore merely consists of skyscrapers and shopping malls. Marina Bay, Singapore’s five-starred area. And indeed there are many high end neighborhoods and spectacular, modern buildings. Night view of the lights of the CBD. In the front we see Marina Bay Sands; hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, and an infinity […]

it’s there if you want it

So, here’s a scenario: You want to go on a theme park ride that spins you like a bicycle spoke at high speed. But you’re wearing a pencil skirt and the ride as those pesky safety seats so that you don’t fall out of them midair. But you really want to see Edinburgh Castle upside-down from a great height while trying not to regurgitate the buffalo haggis burger you ate only five minutes ago. What’s a girl to do? Well, in my case, that pencil skirt got hiked right up. Don’t worry, I was wearing winter tights. ;) I’ll get around to why this story is relevant, but first I just want to say hello! This is my first guest post on another blog, so I’m really excited to share a little slice of life on Rachel’s rad corner of the internet. I’ve been living in Edinburgh for the last […]

tales of the benedicts | backpack trip to virgin falls

Hey y’all! My name is Debbie and I can usually be found over at Tales of the Benedicts. I started blogging a little over a year ago to document the adventures and journeys that life took my husband and I on. It has been so much fun sharing my little life with this great big blogging world. I hail from the south and I am not afraid to get out in the woods and get dirty. Some of my most favorite adventures are the hikes that my husband and I take. It is great to be out in the woods enjoying God’s creation. So I thought I would share a little about one of my favorite adventures…..backpacking at a sweet spot called Virgin Falls. This was the first time that my husband and I had backpacked this trail. We had hiked it a couple of times before and thought it […]

the vintage pearl

I love buying jewelry that has a sentimental meaning so I was excited to find The Vintage Pearl. Each piece is handcrafted from start to finish and can be customized with names, dates and phrases. Every handstamped piece is unique and beautiful so I know you’ll fall in love with this shop. Please welcome Erin from The Vintage Pearl! ********** My team and I create handstamped jewelry and keepsakes using sterling silver, gold-filled, freshwater pearls and swarovski birthstone crystals. We have many unique and meaningful designs to choose from, our pieces make wonderful gifts! The Vintage Pearl began with me stamping jewelry on my kitchen counters in 2007 as a hobby for a fun, creative outlet while staying home with our 4 young children. It soon outgrew just me, and faithful friends jumped in to help. We now have a website, a wholesale collection that is sold in boutiques all […]

brachel boulevard | crossbody bags for travel

Hi all! I have also been blessed with the beautiful name of Rachel! My blog is called Brachel Boulevard. The term, “Brachel” started when my husband and I were joking about celebrity couple names. Brandon+Rachel=Brachel. Over the years the little joke has continued and the term has come to represent all the things we have done as a couple. Together we have two gorgeous children, have traveled to 14 countries, and have lived in 3. We now call gorgeous Barcelona, Spain our home. Just a few weeks ago, we were talking to a local policeman in Barcelona about safety while traveling. He pointed out that the best bags were like the one I was using-a small cross body bag-and here’s why. Crossbody bags can be placed in front of you and easily stay there. No need to look around to see if someone is reaching for your purse, it’s right […]

independent travel cats

Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Pinterest | Bloglovin | Google + I am very excited to have the opportunity to guest post on Postcards from Rachel and introduce our relatively new travel blog: Independent Travel Cats. We’re a twenty-something couple working full-time jobs in the San Francisco Bay area who love to escape from our offices and find some time to travel. Since Rachel’s blog is all about pictures and short descriptions, I thought we’d describe ourselves and our blog with 10 short descriptions and a series of pictures. Enjoy! 1. Traveling as a Couple While I have also done some solo travel and travel with friends and family, most of our travels have been together as a couple over the past 4 years. For us, traveling together as a couple has generally been a fun, bonding experience with a handful of those frustrating, I-can’t-believe-I-didn’t-kill-you moments. The worse parts for us usually involve driving and/or getting lost, such as […]

I usually don’t demand things on my blog, but I demand you all to visit Casey’s blog after you read this guest post. Why? Because she great. She’s genuine and fun, and you’ll love her. I first started talking to Casey on Twitter {about photography and camera bags, if you were wondering}, then I visited her blog and realized we are kind of in the same boat. We are both moving around the country and living out of our comfort zone because of our husbands. We’re learning and growing due to our situations and it’s a wonderful thing. Seriously, go say hello. ********** Hey friends! guest post: found love now what {struggling to fall in love… with paris}

When Belinda from Found Love Now What mentioned her idea for a guest post, I was thrilled. I’ve talked before about getting lost in cities and how it makes traveling more enjoyable and her post is about just that. Wandering around Paris and falling in love. ********** I wanted to share the story of how I fell in love. Not with my husband {that is on the blog here if you are interested}. But how I fell in love with Paris. I expected to stroll the streets of Paris and immediately find inspiration surrounded by such history and beauty. From the Louvre to Versailles, it never happened. I was frustrated and overwhelmed by the crowds, tired from walking all day and simply feeling lack luster. The days ticked by in Paris, and I was wondering what was wrong with me. Why, oh why wasn’t I falling head over heels in […]

guest post: sweet pea sylvie {a day in the life of baby marley}

After being on the road since Saturday afternoon, we’ve finally made it to Florida! We’re spending the night in a gorgeous bed & breakfast in St. Augustine and tomorrow we’ll be on our way to our apartment, which is roughly two hours away. You would think we’d have time to settle in after our move across the country — but no — our lives are hectic as of late. B will be flying out on Saturday for his grad school orientation and I’ll be flying out to my parents’ house for a week. Eventually we’ll unpack our boxes and bags. While we’re enjoying wine and our puppies {and the show Strange Addictions — eek!}, I’m happy to introduce you to Sweet Pea Sylvie and her adorable baby boy, Marley. Everything about her blog draws me in — the style, the beautiful writing, the photos — and of course, her parenting stories. Speaking […]
