Visiting Dachau Nazi Concentration Camp

This isn’t a happy travel story like the many other posts on my blog — it’s quite the opposite actually. But it’s something that I wanted to share on my website because although most tourists are interested in Oktoberfest and the Marienplatz while in Munich, I believe it’s just as crucial to visit the not-so-fun-and-happy sites like the Nazi concentration camps. The experience is heavy and sobering, and although it’s difficult to comprehend that something as horrific as this actually occurred, it’s important to pay our respects. People need to first handedly learn about the good, the bad, and the ugly stuff that happens in our world instead of just reading about it in a textbook, and that’s why I think everyone should visit a concentration camp. It was part of my high school choir group’s agenda and then I went again with my husband years later. We decided that visiting […]

bmw museum and plant in munich, germany

BMW-Museum-Munich

Before I talk about the BMW museum and plant in Munich, Germany, can we just discuss how cool their subway system looks? I wish DC’s Metro or Boston’s T looked this modern. And don’t even get me started on the Chicago L. Anyway… I’m not that into cars. I just wanted to put that out there. As long as my SUV is running, comfortable and doesn’t smell like a taxi cab, I don’t really care about the rest of the details. My husband, on the other hand, knows all about the different models and whatever else car enthusiasts are enamored with… engines? He wanted to check out the BMW museum and I obliged because the outside of the building looked pretty sleek and fun. Plus, there was a Pizza Hut nearby and I wanted to devour the entire salad bar because I can only handle sausage and sauerkraut for so […]

good times in munich

I’m back with more photos from Munich! If you didn’t catch my post about Oktoberfest, you can view it here. Hands down, my favorite place in Munich is the heart of the city or the Marienplatz. I remember watching the Rathaus-Glockenspiel with my grandparents and extended family as a little girl, so I wanted to go back and listen to the bells once again. For those of you who might not be familiar with the Glockenspiel, it’s a carillon located in a bell tower in the city centre and these little dudes dance around and reenact historic events. You can see them below — how cute is that? B and the friends we traveled with loved being in the middle of all the hustle and bustle, and seeing the Glockenspiel was a great experience, too. Make sure you’re familiar with the Glockenspiel times so you don’t miss out. Our other […]

oktoberfest | munich, germany

Hofbräuhaus München

I have relatives in Munich, Germany so I went to Oktoberfest when I was younger, but being able to drink at Oktoberfest has always been on my travel bucket list. B and I decided to take a quick trip when we were living in Scotland and let me tell you, Oktoberfest was a lot different this time around. Sort of like all of the bad frat parties I experienced in college, but combined. It was awesome. We traveled to Munich with another couple and as soon as we deplaned, we made our way to the Hofbräuhaus for beers and brats. It was early in the day but the Germans and tourists were already drinking and having a wonderful time. My kind of place. After our very early lunch, we decided to venture down to a few of the beer tents with hopes of getting a table. As soon as we arrived, […]
