sightseeing in stockholm sweden

I have something bratty to admit. While we were living abroad and traveling every couple of weeks, I got burnt out and almost sick of it. I took our unique situation for granted and exploring other countries almost became the norm. Now that we’re back in the States, I realize how lucky we were to have that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not that I wasn’t aware of how wonderful it was before, but now that we’re unable to hop on a plane every weekend, reality has hit me with a little more force. I have the travel bug right now, and at this moment, there’s nothing I can do about it.

We are at a different place in our lives and although living abroad once again is still a future goal, we’re currently focused on making our new house a home and catching up with friends and family. After a year of being across the pond and missing out on holidays, weddings, baby showers, and birthdays, and two years of moving all over the country and feeling completely stressed about the future, it has been so refreshing to be present and content. But that doesn’t mean I don’t miss traveling from time to time.

And that’s the beautiful part about blogging. I’m able to take a trip down memory lane while sharing my favorite trips with all of you.

So today we’ll be looking at a bunch of photos from Stockholm and some of my favorite things to do in the city.

We were only in Stockholm for a long weekend and because there’s a lot to do, it was difficult to narrow down our sightseeing list. Some of my favorites included the photography museum where we viewed an exhibit all about the Olympics, the Vasa (a massive Swedish warship), the Modern Museum, and the Open-Air Museum. We saw so many adorable animals there and those photos are my favorite!

I have always wanted to visit Stockholm! Can you recommend an area to base yourself/ find a hotel?

Definitely Gamla Stan if you want to hear my opinion. It’s the Old Town of Stockholm and you can find expensive hotels but also low-budget hostels there. But Östermalm is also great. Both in the city centre and both near the waterside.

We stayed in Södermalm and I thought it was perfect. There is a metro (called T-bana) which is very efficient and easy to navigate. Stockholm is one of the safest cities I have visited, so I am sure you can’t go wrong :-)

I love those pink buildings! Also, I LOVE those paintings. I would have bought a couple – I can’t resist good street art.

Wow, such beautiful photos! Enjoy your time with your family and home though; it’s such a fun place to be in life, even if it’s not as exciting as globe trotting. :)

I’ve always wanted to visit Stockholm, but was only able to make it to Gothenburg and Mamlo. Both cities were amazing to visit and had their own personalities, but I’ve heard Stockholm is a totally different feel. I hope to make it there one day. beautiful pics!

I think most people would get burnt out if they were traveling every 2 weeks! That’s a lot of plane/train rides, time changes, and days living out of suitcases! I know you’re glad now that you did it though! :)

Hi rachel, I’m an expat in Stockholm, so it’s always nice to see other adventurers enjoy the city. Next time you’re around definitely visit Södermalm as well :)
