For the past week or so, I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything because we decided to try and become home owners in Northern Virginia. Somehow the stars aligned and we found a brick townhouse with lots of character, a garage, a deck, and a yard, and we had to make an offer. And then another couple decided that they needed this house, too. Darn. Needless to say, we weren’t ready for the emotional roller coaster that is home buying. This process B-L-O-W-S, especially when the seller asks everyone for their best and final offer and you have no idea what everyone else is offering. At one point, I was so stressed out I made Brandon cuddle me and shove fast food down my throat. Sick. So much for being healthy in the New Year. Anyway…
Things would have been fine but we broke the number one first-time home buyer rule — don’t fall in love.
As soon as we found this house on our trusty Zillow app, we started imagining ourselves cooking in the kitchen, our smelly dogs trying to kill each other in the fenced yard, and duh, I started pinning shit like crazy (I hate you, Pinterest). Paint colors and home decor? I’ve had everything planned out since day 1.
After not being able to sleep, a few tears, and realizing that there’s nothing else available in NoVA, we found out that we got the house! We won’t be moving in until the end of February/early March since that’s when we’re scheduled to leave Boston, but we are so darn excited.
Yippee! We got our dream home — and I never want to go through this process again. ;) Here’s to settling down in the ‘burbs after traveling a lot these past few years.
