mornings like these

Mornings have quickly become my favorite time of the day. As soon as the iPhone alarm sounds for my husband and he slowly makes his way to the shower, Ollie peeks his head out from under the duvet and takes Brandon’s place on the pillow. I rub his belly and he stares into my eyes, almost thanking me again for giving him a better life. When Malcolm finally realizes there’s more room for him to stretch out, he leaves his “big boy” dog bed and scratches the bed sheets until I let him up. We say goodbye to Brandon and spend another hour cuddling and checking emails.

Mornings Like These

The morning is filled with snuggles, dog treats, coffee and the news, and when I sit down at my computer to write, Ollie sneaks into our bedroom and puts himself to bed for a quick morning nap. It doesn’t matter if there’s a t-shirt, towel or rogue sock on the bed, he’ll snuggle up with anything that smells like mom and dad.

When I think about mornings with our little family, I wonder if things will change down the road. Will Malcolm and Ollie still get enough attention when we have kids of our own? Will we all snuggle in bed like one big happy family? This is exactly why our first purchase will be a king bed when we move into our new home. Because we don’t want to give up mornings like these.

What does your morning routine look like?

No time for snuggling on work days; although I steel a few extra cuddles between snoozes from my husband if I wake up before he goes to work and then I’m up a few hours later. Weekends are the best. I love waking up naturally without an alarm and knowing that i have the day to myself ahead of me.

Sounds like a lovely morning to me. :) My morning routine resembles that of Anna’s wakeup in Frozen. :p Not very attractive. That’s fur sure.

Your mornings sound like a dream! I wouldn’t even mind this cold weather if I had a couple snuggle buddies like yours!

I’m a big fan of mornings. Our company is located in Minneapolis, so I have a full hour to get ahead before my coworkers are up and ready to go. The time difference is such a blessing to me.

Aww, I love my mornings. I put off getting out of bed as long as possible & snuggle with my pup, Izzy. Then when I drag myself out of bed for coffee & to check emails & such, she’s right back at my side for snuggles after she has her trip outside. She’s spoiled with love & I wouldn’t have it any other way ;)

Aw this is such a sweet post! That is my favorite thing about our pups, they follow us all around the house and love being in the same room as us. In fact, as I type this, my lab is laying right next to me while I sit on the floor. Things will change a little when you have children, but for the most part the stay the same. Our dogs love our son and are constantly cuddling up with him too :) If our son leaves his blanket on the floor they both try to cuddle up on it, it’s adorable even though our son doesn’t think so ha ha!

I do the same… Tim leaves for work and the cat and I snuggle for another few minutes. :)

Thanks for letting me burn by myself today ;) Kidding, kidding, I’m glad you found some time to sit back, relax and write :) xo

Loved how sweet this post was, Rachel! I love relaxing mornings too :)

Aww, I love this post!! Mornings (on the weekend) are definitely my favorite, too. I love laying in bed and scratching Binky while he cuddles up next to us.

I love my morning cuddles with my pup – nothing better!

  • Chantal

Mine? Toddler wakes up, pokes me in the face, and then we get going ;)

  • Tara

Love quiet, still, beautiful mornings like this.

  • Helene

ugh that sound slike the best morning ever!!

  • Hayley

    Sounds like the perfect morning!

  • Elise Eyears

That sounds like a really lovely morning. This morning I spent my morning curling up under the blanket while the rain poured outside. It’s good to have relaxing mornings!

  • Shana

That’s so sweet! Don’t stress! Our dogs still sleep with us and the boys! Some nights it can get crowded lol but it is amazing! Our boys give the dogs lots of belly rubs and kisses too! ;-)

I miss morning cuddles with my pup, worst decision I’ve ever made was giving him away when we moved to France :( At least I know he has a good home. But I really can’t wait to have another furry member of our family! My mornings normally consist of getting up at 6, commuting with my husband to the city, going to the bakery for a croissant and coffee and an hour of relaxing/reading time before catching the bus to my classes. I’ve always been somebody that needs some “coffee time” in the mornings before I actually get started on the day, so it’s worked out nicely with our schedules :)

Our routine usally involves out daughter waking us up (like clockwork!), some morning snuggles, Eisley falling back asleep and then a nice hot cup of coffee. I’d have to say, I think the cuddles and coffee are my favorite. :)

Rachel, that sounds like pure morning bliss! I have always been a night owl so mornings for me are way more of a struggle, especially since it’s been so cold here in Michigan. But yesterday we had a day off and it was heaven sleeping in, making pancakes, and reading blogs :)

  • Anna Belle

Aww, that is similar to my morning – husband up first and I get to snuggle with our cat (who sleeps on my pillow all night anyway…cats are good at sleeping!)

  • Jess Boyd

This is too precious. Since graduation, I’ve moved back in with my parents for the time being (which has been an adjustment.) But like clockwork, after mom leaves to go to the gym at 6, my doxie is crying at my door looking for another bead to hop into until I wake up and go to work. And I wouldn’t have it any other way (except maybe in a place of my own haha) P.S. So excited for your home purchase!!

such a sweet post! I enjoy our weekend mornings like this which are similar. except our dogs are usually a little rowdier because they are so hungry and apparently starved to death ha. But after they’re fed, I love relaxing on the couch together with coffee and catching up on tv shows. such a good idea to enjoy it now before life gets more hectic!

  • Fran

Love this, it sounds so awesome. Pure morning bliss :)

  • Kaelene Spence

I love quiet peaceful mornings and try and wake up an hour early just to not feel rushed before the day begins. Nothing better than starting the day off with coffee and puppy cuddles.

  • Sara Louise

Fifty and I start our mornings just like you, Malcolm and Ollie do :)

  • Lindsey Augustine

I love it. It sounds a lot like my morning, but instead of giving the dogs treats, I feed Liam his breakfast. And Disney Jr. is playing in the background. Love our king sized bed, though sometimes it still doesn’t feel big enough. Hahaha.
