it’s looking a little different around these parts

You may have noticed that my blog got a little facelift yesterday. Thanks to Jenny from Maiedae, everything is organized and looking clean. She’s a creative genius and so easy to work with!

Let me point out a few things that will be helpful if you’re a reader:

On the left sidebar you’ll find a “subscribe by email” button and some of my popular post topics for easy access — there’s also a “lately” widget where I’ll be posting ad sales and other information from time to time.

She installed a navigation bar with drop-downs so you can find even more topics with ease, and everything will be clutter-free from now on.

I even have a new FAQ section and updated Advertise page. I kind of feel like a real blogger now!

Lastly, I switched from Blogger to WordPress, and with a big transition like this, there are always going to be a few hiccups along the way. If you stumble across any issues while exploring my new site, please leave your thoughts in the comment section below. I appreciate and value your opinions so very much!

Speaking of comments, do you think I should keep WordPress comments or install something like Disqus or Commentluv? I’m still working on putting everything together, but hopefully it will all be complete by the end of the week. Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I’m so glad you switched! You may not believe me now, but it will all be worth it in the end. You’re gonna wish you were on WordPress sooner! xoxo

I vote Disqus. It’s just so much simpler to comment when I’m always logged in, and I can see when people reply to me through their widget on any other post.

Already mentioned this, but your blog looks amazing. Jenny did an incredible job.

Rachel–I LOVE this! Your site is beautiful. Seriously, I can’t get enough!

I personally like disqus, because it notifies you when people respond in the thread, and you don’t have to e-mail respond to everyone like in blogger. I don’t use it myself because….well, I should! haha. Your new design looks fab :)

    • Lix

Install iiiit. PS I just followed you, hi.

  • Beka

Your new design is very pretty, clean and simple. I honestly don’t like disquis. If you want to leave a comment you have to sign in and become a member. Sometimes I don’t want to be a member but I want to leave people comments. Perhaps I should do some more research as to why everyone loves it so much.

    • Lix

I think you can actually leave comments as a guest, but the blogger has to manually enable it. I say I think because I, uh, found that setting yesterday.

  • Amanda

I think it looks gorgeous. I’d vote Disqus as well! xx

  • Britta

i think your new design is great! i really love designs like this that are simple but also show creativity and a little flare :) also, i would recommend the disquis comment style! i find it very easy commenting that way

I love the look of your blog! Very modern and fancy. Welcome to the WordPress world– it’s awesome. I just added Comments Evolved. It connects to Disqus which is cool but feels a little sleeker than the actual Disqus plugin.

  • Nicole @ Treasure Tromp

ek, your blog is so beautiful it is hurting my eyes!

  • Natalie

    I love it girl!!

I would recommend Disqus. When I had WP, I got spammed all the time. I love Disqus. You will love it too!

  • Chelsea

gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous : ) i’m so excited for this new step for you!

  • Georgina

Hi! New subscriber here – your revamped look is gorgeous! Super clean and easy to navigate, but also very chic. I’m new in the blogging world, but from what I can see, Disqus is a great tool. But if the regular WP comments are working for you, I suppose it’s more of a personal preference thing. Either way, love your blog!

  • Jane Y.

Congratulations! The site looks wonderful! I love the pull down and your header!

  • Danielle @ The-Lifestyle-Project

Love love love the new design Rachel! Everything looks bright, fresh, and modern. Maidae did a wonderful job. As for comments, I personally prefer CommentLuv but don’t use it for my site so I’m not sure about the back end.

  • Stephanie

I,m loving the new design!! So pretty :)

  • Kylie @ Lip Gloss & Lunges

Disqus all the way! You can respond through their comment and it will notify them, instead of having to email them. Plus, it will give more of your commenters an avatar. I found that when I used the regular commenting system hardly anyone’s picture ever showed up, unless they installed a separate plugin for that, and it just didn’t make my comments look near as pretty or authentic.

  • Deanna

Looks great Rachel! I vote for either Disqus or Comment Love. I like them both and think they make it easier to comment. Comment Luv is nice because of the option to show the commenters latest post.

  • Kaity

it looks SO GOOD!!! I seriously love all of Jenny’s work – she does an amazing job with her designs.

  • Debbie B

Looks good! I like Disquis. I like how all responses from the blogger come back to me in email.

  • Irene

Your blog new layout looks gorgeous, Rachel! Very professional, good luck with WP – I was thinking about switching to WP a couple of months ago but in the end decided against it. Let us know if the transition goes smoothly and ifnit’s really worth it!
    Have a great day!

  • Anni

    I love the new design!!!

  • Amy R

It looks awesome, and it’s a really cool idea to show people around the new site.

  • Rachel

Soooooo pretty!!! I need my blog to look like this!!

  • Stephanie

I am in love with the new design! :)

  • Mar @ t.o. & fro

Loving the new look! I thought it looked great before, but I’m all for a clean and simple look as well.

  • Andi of My Beautiful Adventures

    Love the new look!

  • GInny

AH! LOVE it! Personally, I thought your old site was gorgeous – but this is even better! Amazing.

PLEASE share what “Lately” widget you are using!! I want one!

  • Sarah @ The Wanderblogger

I love it! Everything looks fantastic! You’re brave for making the jump to WordPress – I hear it’s a bit of a headache. Personally, I prefer Disqus, but this works, too!

  • Anja

Looks really neat! Love the idea of the round pics for the categories! :-)
I have to say, Disqus is not one of my favorite things to use as a commenter, but comment luv is nice (to be honest, I often click on the latest posts of the other commenters – when reading a comment, I often want to find out more about the person who wrote it).

  • Jessica | Independent Travel Cats

Love the new design!! II use regular WordPress comment system with the CommentLuv plugin added on. I think CommentLuv is nice as it allows readers to share their latest posts and for other readers to better connect with each other.

  • Jade

I love it Rachel! Lisa did an amazing job.

P.S. Welcome to the world of WordPress!

  • Kerry

Love the new design. I am in WordPress too and love it. I am not a fan of disqus since you don’t really have the option of back and forth emails. Everything gets posted on the blog, I tend to not follow up since i don’t want all their readers seeing our exchange. Just my opinion though.

  • Anna @ eatseedoblog

I love the new look – so nice and clean! I added disqus once but it got rid of ALL my other comments (they came back when I uninstalled disqus) so that put me off and I find the wordpress ones really simple to use. But I do like using disqus on other people’s blogs!

  • Megan C. Stroup

Oh my gosh I love the new design! So many fun little touches but still very easy to read. :)

  • Niki Caron

I love it! It looks amazing!
