six things you should know about me

Description of Photo
Laure from The Brotherton’s tagged me in a fun post that’s going around and I hope you’ll learn a little bit more about me. Be sure to check out her blog too because she has some beautiful photos of her family and two dogs. Plus, she’s such a cutie!

six things you should know about me

1. Is this how you imagined your life would be?
Honestly, no. I always figured I’d be working in DC and living in my little studio with a dog {I used to have the smallest apartment EVER}. I had no idea I’d meet such a wonderful man at a bar of all places and get married at 25. I never dated much because I was always worried about school and my career, so it was kind of random. Love does mysterious things! Now I’m enjoying funemployment and moving around every six months.

2. Favorite evening out drink?
I’ve always been a beer girl, mainly because I can’t handle hard alcohol. He he he . . .
Traveling around Europe was the best because we were able to try a ton of different beers, collect mugs, buy coasters — a beer-lover’s paradise! If I want something a little more exciting, I’ll have wine or a White Russian once in a while. Yummy! But I don’t really drink that much anymore, so…

3. Who are the blogs you love to stalk?
There are way too many blogs I love, but if I had to choose only three I’d have to say Lost in Travels, We Took the Road Less Traveled, and Across the Pond. They’re all expats/former expats and I started reading their blogs while I was living abroad. When you’re thrown into a new situation that makes you feel somewhat uncomfortable, blogging can bring you a lot of support; even if it’s just reading about someone else’s experiences!

4. What’s something you love about yourself?
I’m a serious person but I also have a weird side. Weird as in I dance around the apartment while my husband is trying to do homework or watch a game on the TV, and I have voices dedicated to both dogs. Because it’s normal to make your dogs talk, right? We have a lot of fun in our family.

5. Guilty pleasure?
I’m not sure what answer to give for this question so I’ll just rattle off a few things I enjoy. My Kindle, bubble baths, fostering da doggies, writing, snacking all day, watching the news, coffee, swearing, weird jokes, politics, writing, massages, photography, and hanging with my little sister. There ya go!

6. How did your blog come about?
I’ve been blogging since the end of July 2012 and started because I thought it would be fun to document our life abroad, weekend travels, and all of the photos we snapped. I thought of “Postcards from Rachel” because I wanted my blog to be travel-themed, but didn’t want to mention a specific city or country since we would be moving around so often. I thought that my blog posts could be “postcards” from me to our family and friends {wherever we may be in this big world}, and went with that.

I had always wanted to start a blog but putting myself out there seemed scary. I kept thinking, “will people actually want to read about my life?” I got over that pretty fast when blogging became a support system for me. I’ve met so many wonderful women! If you’re reading this and have thought about creating a blog, I’d love to pressure encourage you to start!

I’m tagging:

Pick six to answer for yourself:
1. What’s the best piece of advice anyone has given you?
2. If you could meet any blogger in person, who would you choose?
3. Blogs you’re loving right now?
4. What’s your biggest struggle in life?
5. Favorite piece of jewelry {other than your engagement/wedding ring} and why?
6. What’s something you love about yourself?
7. Favorite thing to do in your spare time?
8. Tell us something we don’t know about you.
9. Who inspires you?

This is a fun post! Great way to tell your readers more about yourself. My life is definitely not how I imagined it would be. But, plans change and people adapt. Also, I make my dog talk all the time, too. :)

This is such a fun and great post. So interesting how you didn’t imagine this life for you, I am a planner and a part of me wants to drop it all and go out and be adventurous!

Dog voices — I totally do the same thing! Kodi is usually Scout from the to killa mockingbird movie. And Maggie is a southern belle. I love white Russians. Too bad we don’t go out often.

I agree with bubble baths and I did not think I knew the exact origin of your blog, loved it!
