images from topkapi palace | istanbul, turkey

While we were in Istanbul, we visited Topkapi Palace which was the residence of Ottoman Sultans. It is now a museum and one of the oldest palaces in the world.

We spent hours roaming around and admiring the beautiful details.

Rachel, you are killing me with all your gorgeous Istanbul posts! I have never been so antsy to see a place for myself. I am dying over those amazing mosaics. I cannot even imagine how long they took to create. Probably too long to consider putting up in my house :)

I’ve been there!! Isn’t it incredible??? Really shows how multifaceted Islam is too, and artistic. I LOVE the spice market.

I enjoyed the palace when I visited too. It was so intricate and beautiful. It must be fun to tour in the cold, it was so hot when we went!

Beautiful! Amazing photos. :) The detail in old architecture is truly amazing. You just don’t see all the precious stones and amount of thought in today’s architecture.

I love the colours inside the buildings – so vibrant! There is a great place to visit in London which is the Leighton House Museum which has a room in the same style as the images above. Leighton is one of my favourite artists and it is well worth a visit if you have not been already!

That first photo of the palace is so cool… it looks just like a castle “should” in all the story books, you know what I mean? But I also love all the intricate patterns and all the colours… lovely! :D

So gorgeous! I can definitely see the Moorish influence in the Spanish palaces I visited this summer. The tile work is very similar to this!
