goals of 2013

2013 is our year

1. Focus on photography
We recently made the switch from Canon to Nikon and I’m excited to say that my new D600 is on it’s way. It was easy to pick up my camera while we were living in the UK because we were surrounded by beautiful castles and old buildings, but here… not so much. Although the Grand Canyon is gorgeous, I haven’t felt as inspired here; therefore, my camera stays in a bag in my closet. I’m hoping to make a change and use my new camera and lens often.

2. Start a nonprofit rescue group
This may not happen in 2013 because it’s difficult to do anything while moving around, but I already have my husband doing the research. I have a soft spot for homeless dogs and would love to do more for them. We have fostered a few dogs, but there are many more that are euthanized in county pounds every day — and at such a young age! Although there are great rescues in place already, they’re swamped and it’s difficult to recruit fosters. Sooo, if you can, foster a dog! Yes, it’s difficult to give them up in the end, but you know what’s even worse? Knowing that they died in a cold, dirty shelter because no one stepped up for them. Fosters save lives. :)

3. Bring back date night
B and I used to have a set date night every Wednesday and it was a lot of fun! We would try and get creative while we lived in DC so we attended parties at Embassies, went dancing, ice skating, hit up multiple comedy and jazz clubs, and went to musicals. When we moved to the UK, we were solely focused on travel {which was awesome, too!} and weekend trips and date night suffered. And is still suffering a bit in Arizona. We need to bring back the bonding!

4. Exercise at least a few times a week and stop eating junk
Is it sad I can’t even remember the last time I did cardio? Sure, I go to yoga class every so often, but I honestly can’t remember the last time I felt sweat {getting swass in the Florida humidity doesn’t count}. As I’m typing this, I’m eating a chocolate bar {Christmas discounts at the grocery stores!} and am probably covered in stickiness. God bless my husband. Anyway, back to my hatred of exercise. I don’t want to lose weight. I want to feel healthy… I want to feel energized… I want my skin to stop acting bipolar… and I want my annoying GI issues to go away {too much information?}. Here’s to getting my sweat on in the New Year!

5. Drink more water
I could go days without drinking water, but I’d probably pass out {I’ve done it before}. I know it’s completely unhealthy, but I never get thirsty like normal people do, and I have to consciously keep track of every glass I gulp every.single.day. I’m actually thinking about documenting each glass in my planner. Yeah…

6. Stay in touch with friends
I talk and email with a few friends regularly, but need to make a greater effort with others. It’s difficult because everyone lives in a different State now and we’re all busy in different ways!

7. Save money
Malcolm doesn’t need a dog bed… he sleeps on the couch and in our bed. Malcolm doesn’t need a new sweater… he hates wearing clothes. Malcolm doesn’t need twenty more toys… he shreds them in two minutes. You get the point. #spoiledpuppy

8. Be better at meal planning
Thanks to unemployment and Pinterest, I can now cook. But this doesn’t mean I make a gourmet meal every night {sorry B}. If I spent more time planning out the entire week and writing down my grocery list, I’m sure I’d be successful.

9. Keep things clean and organized
A clean house makes everyone happier! If only my apartment could clean itself…

10. Sell my travel prints
I’m proud of the photos I took abroad, and I’m hoping others like them, too. I’d love to start selling prints to interested buyers!

I already touched on blog goals here, and I’m sure there are other personal goals I’m forgetting, but that’s my list. I’m hoping this year will be productive!

I have such similar goals for this year! Photography focus, date night, exercise (it’s been like a foreign, unknown word to me, lately!) and SAVING MONEY! Good luck! I feel like in 2013, we can do them all! :)
