2012 has come to an end and although I’m excited for a new start, it’s bittersweet. 2012 was a year of opportunity for us as a new couple. We said goodbye to the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC and moved to Aberdeen, Scotland where we embraced funny accents, loads of beer, castles and fried haggis balls. We spent countless hours on flights, exploring cities across Europe, and learned how to pack for said trips using only a small backpack. We became less materialistic and focused on life experiences instead. We fought — sometimes a lot — and then grew closer, because when you drop everything and move to a different country all alone, that’s what happens. We rode camels in Marrakech, stepped barefoot into Istanbul’s Blue Mosque, and I lost my glasses in Amsterdam. We explored Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, visited markets in Prague, and were bullied by airport security in Brussels. Then, as we were just getting settled in the UK, we picked up and moved to Arizona with our dog in tow.
2013 means we’ll be moving yet again, and even though our moves no longer include new countries, I have a feeling they’ll be just as exciting.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
