an award? me?

While vacationing last week, I received three separate messages from bloggers regarding the Liebster Award and how they had nominated me {I thought my blog sucked! Ha}. Since I’m a newbie when it comes to blogging and I’m still desperately trying to learn the ropes, I’m embarrassed to say I had no idea what the award was. After a bit of research, I can now say that I’m so honored to have been chosen. I think it’s a great way to feature smaller blogs that are just starting out {the award is for blogs with 200 or less followers} and I’m super excited to participate and hopefully help others gain a few followers along the way, too. Networking is fun and so are blog friends!

Liebster Award rules:
1. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.
2. Answer the 11 questions the tagger has set for you, and then create 11 new questions for the bloggers you pass the award to. Since I was nominated by Lashes and BeardLife Etc., and A Brit and her Yank {all blogs I love}, I’m supposed to answer a total of 33 questions. Eek!
3. Choose 11 bloggers {with less than 200 followers} to pass the award to and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them about the award.
5. Follow the tagger and visit at least three nominees.
6. No tag backs!

Random facts about me:
1. We move back to the USA in ten days and I’m still trying to decide whether I want to start my MPA or just have fun with random photography classes. Photography is fun, school is not.
2. I still have a baby blanket my grandmother gave me when I was very, very young. It’s old and shredded, but sentimental and I refuse to throw it out.
3. Before moving to Scotland, I worked in DC for two different Members of Congress. It was stressful but a great learning experience.
4. I hate when I switch the car turn signal on and it doesn’t click with the beat of the song I’m listening to. Obviously a turn signal is never going to click perfectly with a song so I should just let it go, but it’s still a pet peeve of mine.
5. I love traveling and I’m so grateful that we’ve been able to do so much of it, but I’m exhausted. Who knew vacations could wear you out so much?
6. After our stint in the UK, we’ll be moving around the US for a while. Who knows where we’ll finally settle down.
7. I have to start out my day with a nice cup of coffee. My favorite is Mochas from Panera but they don’t have Panera over here. Boo.
8. My favorite snack of all time is guacamole, salsa and tortilla chips.
9. My husband and I finish each other’s sentences all the time. We also have similar facial expressions, quirks… sometimes it’s freaky.
10. I had a job at Claire’s when I was in college and I *hated* it more than anything. It was all smooth sailing until I had to start piercing ears and someone fainted and fell off of the chair. I cried and ran to the back room {after I helped him, of course}.
11. I treat my little puppy like a child. But who doesn’t?

Questions from Lashes & Beard:
1. If you were an instrument, what would you be and why? A tenor saxophone! I played a tenor sax in high school {yay, jazz band} and I love the way they sound.
2. Coke or Pepsi? I prefer orange soda, but I’d go with Coke.
3. What was the last song you listened to? Call Me Maybe. :)
4. What purpose does blogging fulfill for you? Since we’re moving around so much, I love keeping my friends and family up-to-date. I also enjoy connecting with other bloggers who are doing the same thing because I can pick up tips along the way.
5. What did you want to be when you were 5? 10? 15? Dancer, Lawyer, Meteorologist. And right now, I’m not sure what I want to do. Maybe I’ll start working on the Hill again in the future.
6. What is your favorite snack food? Chips and guacamole/salsa or vegetables and hummus!
7. What is one tradition your family had when you were growing up that you’d like to continue with your family? During holidays, my entire family {grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins} spends time with each other. I’d like to try and keep that up but it’s becoming harder with everyone moving away!
8. If you were a pirate searching for buried treasure, what would that treasure be? Ha, I don’t know… a new car since we sold ours before moving to the UK?
9. What is your favorite quote, and why? “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein. Everyone should take risks once in a while.
10. When is your favorite time of day? When Brandon comes home from work!
11. Do you prefer to use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram? I love Facebook because I constantly know what’s going on with family and friends. I can’t use Instagram on my UK phone but I cannot wait to start using it regularly when we live in Arizona.

Questions from Life Etc.:
1. When I grow up I’d like to be? A good wife and mother.
2. First pet? A cute, gray kitty named Nicki. My parents surprised me when they picked me up from school. She was the sweetest cat I’ve ever met!
3. Meanest thing you’ve ever said or done? I clashed with my mom when I was in high school because I wanted to hang out with certain people and stay out late, so I’m sure I said something terrible when I was angry. For the record, my mom was always right. Isn’t this always the case?
4. Chocolate vs. lollies? Chocolate! Yum.
5. Best advice you’ve ever been given? I believe my teachers and parents always told me that I could do/be anything I wanted to so I’ve always remembered that. That’s why I moved from the Midwest to DC, and also why we’re living in the UK!
6. What’s your guilty pleasure? Reality television… anything super trashy will do.
7. A perfect Saturday night would involve? Thai takeout and a movie with Brandon. Or a musical at the local theatre. :)
8. Favorite travel destination? Tough question… Italy was great and so was Spain. Both beautiful countries with great food!
9. Three beauty items you could not live without? Cherry chapstick {obsessed}, Clinique All About Eyes, and my Clarisonic.
10. I never leave the house without… My phone! I’m always texting someone throughout the day.
11. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Around 40 minutes.

Questions from A Brit and her Yank:
1. What is your favorite movie? Love Actually.
2. What is your dream job? I honestly have no idea! I love photography so I’d like to do that part-time, but I’m not sure.
3. Favorite season? I love Spring! The temperature is perfect and the flowers are blooming. I could do without rain and tornadoes, though.
4. What is your favorite family tradition? I always love Christmas Eve because the entire family gets together and makes yummy chili and other soups. It’s nice to see grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins on Christmas Eve and Christmas. We also exchange gag gifts which are pretty hilarious.
5. If you could change your first name, what would you change it to? I don’t think I’d ever want to change my first name! I can’t imagine being called anything else. :)
6. Is the book version always better than the movie version? Yes! More details and you can visualize the characters yourself. I’m always disappointed with the movies… although The Help was great and so was The Hunger Games. So maybe the movies aren’t so bad. :)
7. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? All over Asia! And I’d love to visit Iceland and swim in the Blue Lagoon. It looks so beautiful.
8. What is your favorite food? I am obsessed with food and not picky at all. A few of my favorites would have to be Thai, Indian, and Turkish food.
9. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy/do with the money? I would send my family on a European vacation and buy a house somewhere.
10. Are you a dog, or cat person? Dog, but I also like cats. Let’s be serious, I love all animals.
11. Describe your perfect day. Well it would have to be sunny out {I’m sick of the UK weather} and involve a mocha at the neighborhood coffee shop, a walk in the park with my dog, a good book, photography session, and dinner with my husband.
